Pedro Rezende wins both Carrera Los 80 races

Atualizado: 1 de jun. de 2023

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve hosted the first two races of Carrera Los 80, a competition aimed at all those who want to enjoy driving in race conditions of GT and touring cars from the 1980s and 1990s.

Late on Saturday afternoon, with ideal temperatures for practicing the sport on the always-attractive Portimão circuit, the Carrera Los 80's squad was on the starting grid.

Pedro Bastos Rezende, who had won the Iberian Historic Endurance race driving his impressive De Tomaso Pantera a few hours earlier, showed his skills with exuberance from the first position of the grid. Driving his Porsche 911 RS, also well prepared in Garagem Aurora, Pedro Bastos Rezende headed with a certain ease to his second of the four victories that he collected this weekend in the Algarve Welcome Spring.

The experienced Iberian driver repeated the feat in the second confrontation on Sunday afternoon, although this time he fell from first to fourth at the start of the 40-minute race. After a good recovery that lasted six laps, the Porsche 911 RS returned to the race lead, never relinquishing it again throughout the 20-minute race.

The battle for the second position in both races was much livelier, with the two Alfa Romeo GTAm cars of the German drivers Christian Oldendorff and Volker Hichert competing in the position. Meanwhile, in the second race, Pedro Oliveira and Diamantino Ferreira, in their imposing BMW 635 CSI, won the duel with Christian Oldendorff's Alfa Romeo GTAm for the second place.

Still adapting to the Volvo 850 Estate, Paulo Amorim and Carlos Martins finished fifth twice. Rui Garcia, who was unable to participate in Saturday's race, stood out in Sunday's race, finishing fourth with another BMW 635 CSI prepared by Mr Wheeler Motorsport.

It is also worth highlighting the presence on the track throughout the weekend of the Ford Escort RS of Luís Moutinho, the Ford Escort TC of Manuel Ferrão, and the Datsun 1200 of Francisco Pinto Abreu. These cars had one thing in common, the fact that their drivers were racing for fun rather than victory.

The next round of Carrera Los 80 is scheduled to take place on the weekend of June 10th and 11th, as part of the Jarama Classic program, at the charismatic Spanish circuit of Madrid.
