The Estoril 500 km has always had the tradition of being a pre-Christmas event, where instead of gathering family and friends at the table, car racing enthusiasts come together in a team, where they try out new cars, teammates and challenges. 

 

For example, the first edition of the Estoril 500 km - race held in May 1978 and then eligible for the European Touring Car Championship - emphasis will be placed on team strategies and pit stops, and each participating vehicle will have to carry out five “visits” to the pitlane during the race, with a minimum duration of 120 seconds each. 

 

The proof that is assumed to be an end-of-season celebration, it will also have an innovative rule that will make the race even more interesting and focused on strategy.

 

The organization will provide specific fuel pumps, which means that no additional equipment or personnel are needed for refueling. With this organization equipment there will be a rule that limits refueling to 50 liters per stop. 

 

In this race, that will have maximum duration of three hours, and where the track with the challenging "Curva do Tanque" will be used, each team can be formed and between two and six pilots.

 

With the aim of combining fun with driving and competitiveness with camaraderie, the platoon of 500 km from Estoril will be as inclusive as possible within the national automobile fleet, leaving out only single-seaters and prototypes.
