Iberian Historic Endurance announces its calendar for 2023 and keeps its winning formula

  • The formula for success remains unchanged

  • Back to the origins in Spain

  • The competition starts and finishes in Portugal

Iberian Historic Endurance will be 11 years old in 2023 and the prestigious Race Ready classic cars competition is committed to continuity, maintaining the successful technical and sporting regulations and the same number of races, while returning to its origins, with the novelty of revisiting two of the most charismatic circuits in Spain.

The season kicks off with the Estoril Exclusive Test at the Autódromo do Estori in March, a unique opportunity to test the machines before the first race of the year, scheduled for the weekend of 7 and 8 May at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. As last year, the stunning and modern Portimão circuit will host two 50-minute races of the competition, which is governed by the spirit of the "3 C's" - No Cheating, No Crashing, No Complaining.

The Iberian Historic Endurance will not only stay on the Iberian Peninsula, but will revisit two of the world's iconic motorsport circuits in the heart of Europe. Our award-winning series has been honoured to be invited once again to be part of the Grand Prix de Pau Historique programme, giving drivers and teams the opportunity to drive on one of the oldest European street circuits in the second race of the season.

Still in the French-speaking world, the Iberian historic endurance caravan will return in the summer to the Belgian Ardennes, more specifically to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, for a new edition of the 3 Hours of Spa. Seven dozen cars are expected at "le plus beau Circuit du Monde" for this "mini-marathon" of the Spa Summer Classic weekend.

In Spain, Race Ready will once again host a total of four races over two events. This time the Relaxed Historic Racing series will return to its roots, with two legendary Spanish circuits: Jarama and Jerez. On the weekend of 10-11 June, just outside Madrid, the Iberian Historic Endurance will be one of the highlights of "Supercars en Jarama", an event organised by Race Ready at the Circuito del Jarama, an infrastructure built in 1967.

Also returning to the calendar is the Circuito de Jerez, another former F1 circuit and home of MotoGP in Spain. The eagerly awaited return of the Jerez Historic Festival is scheduled for the weekend of 21-22 October, when the weather is more conducive to motor racing in this part of the globe.

Between the two Spanish events, one of the biggest classic car events in Europe will be held at the Autodromo do Estoril, organised by Race Ready. With the presence of a large audience and an extraordinary atmosphere, reminiscent of the "golden years" of Estoril, a "full house" is expected for the only race in the popular Estoril Classics.

The season closes with the big party of the Iberian Historic Endurance, the traditional 250km of Estoril, on the weekend of 25 and 26 November, where the symbolic start will once again be organised "Le Mans style" in the best spirit of endurance racing, with four stints of driving, refuelling and strategy.

1000km Trophy and Index of Performance - The Good Bet

The Iberian Historic Endurance will keep the same class structure next year - Gentleman Drivers Spirit (GDS), H.1965, H1971, H-1976 and GTP & Sports Cars - as well as the 1000km Trophy and Index of Performance.

The 1000km Trophy aims to recognise the most consistent team over the course of the season, rewarding the car/driver combination that participates in the most races and covers the most kilometres over the course of the Iberian Historic Endurance season.

The Index of Performance winner of each race does not have to be the first to cross the finish line, but the best classified after a coefficient applied to each model, where older and smaller cars are valued, being a further incentive to participate with different and smaller cars, which give equal or even greater driving pleasure.

For Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, "this year, which will be very special for us, we will return to our origins and to the most popular circuits in Spain, after a year's absence, in which we went to try new tracks and challenges. In 2023, we will continue to bet on this formula that is synonymous with vitality and success".
