Carrera 80: 2025 with More Races and Growing Ambition

Updated: Dec 19, 2024

After a consolidating season in 2024, the Carrera 80 racing series is set to expand in 2025, boasting an extended calendar and several new features catering to the interests of drivers and teams.

The competition for Touring and GT cars built between 1976 and 1994 will continue to grow next season, with an additional event on the schedule. In total, the series will feature five events — three in Spain and two in Portugal — establishing the Carrera 80 among the flagship events organised by Race Ready.

The season kicks off in May at a circuit new to most participants. The Monteblanco Circuit, located in the Huelva province near Seville, has recently been homologated and offers a 960-metre straight and 18 corners on a 4.458-kilometre layout, promising thrilling races and a fresh challenge.

The calendar also includes a return to the Jarama Classic, Spain’s largest classic car festival, and another Spanish venue. The Carrera 80 series will also race at the Circuit de la Comunidad Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, as part of a Race Ready-organised race weekend, on one of southern Europe’s most modern and functional tracks.

As is tradition, the season will conclude with two events in Portugal: one at the Algarve International Circuit as part of the revitalised Algarve Classic Festival, and another at the Estoril Circuit, forming the third edition of the Estoril Endurance Festival.

Preserving the philosophy of the "3 Cs" — No Crashing, No Cheating, No Complaining — inherited from its "older sibling," the Iberian Historic Endurance, every Carrera 80 event will include two 40-minute races with a mandatory pit stop, with Sunday races broadcast live via streaming.

Following a successful trial at the final 2024 event, slick tyres will also be permitted in 2025, albeit with regulatory restrictions and a time handicap during pit stops to balance performance for those opting to stick with radial tyres.

For Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready, the 2025 season represents a “commitment to an expanded calendar. This growth aligns with increasing interest in the competition, with expectations that new participants will drive cars reminiscent of the golden age of Touring cars and the early revival of GTs. Regarding specific rules, we’ve allowed the use of slick tyres. Teams can use slicks but will face an additional stop during driver changes and may only use one new set every two events. Allowing slicks at Estoril proved crucial in confirming we are on the right track, with the grid reaching 20 entrants.”

Before the season begins, the Autódromo do Estoril will host another edition of the "Exclusive Test Day" on the weekend of 21–22 March. This crucial session enables drivers and teams to fine-tune their cars in preparation for the competition starting the following month.
